About us

At St Mary’s University, we believe education is about more than teaching – it’s about purpose. Since 1850, we’ve stood for learning that equips people with the empathy, resilience, and creativity needed to shape a better world.

Our four core values of inclusiveness, generosity of spirit, respect and excellence reflect our Catholic foundation and guide our interactions within the University and with the broader world.

St Mary’s has a strong reputation for teaching excellence and a student-centred approach. In the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework, St Mary’s was rated the gold standard for student experience. The University achieved an overall rating of Silver, with student outcomes rated typically very high quality.

On the edge of London, our green campus blends city energy with open space to think, connect, and grow. Our unique historical surroundings in Twickenham are home to Strawberry Hill House and Mater Ecclesiae College, and offer world-class provision for sport, on-campus accommodation, dedicated study and social spaces, on-site catering and extensive grounds.
